Navid Bahrani
Senior Geomechanics Engineer
Dr. Navid Bahrani is a graduate of the University of Alberta and Laurentian University and has over 15 years of experience in the field of mining geomechanics. For nearly seven years (2008-2015), he worked as a Research Engineer at MIRARCO’s Geomechanics Research Centre (GRC) in Sudbury, ON, Canada. At GRC, he was involved in various rock mechanics projects across North America, including in situ stress measurement, rock mass characterization, deformation monitoring, laboratory testing, and numerical modelling. He also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Toronto's Lassonde Institute of Mining (2015-2017), where he investigated the behavior of rock support under laboratory and mining-induced loading conditions using numerical modelling. From 2017 to 2025, he was a professor of mining engineering and rock mechanics at Dalhousie University, NS, Canada, where he supervised two post-doctoral fellows, three PhD students, and five MASc students. At Dalhousie, he taught various undergraduate and graduate courses related to rock mechanics, numerical modelling, blasting and fragmentation, and geomechanical mine design. Navid is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada.
